Colleges in Central Massachusetts are due to receive an estimated $100 million among them under the latest federal pandemic aid program.
The most funds will go towards colleges whose students are more likely to receive financial-need-based Pell Grants, including Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, due to receive more than $18 million, and Worcester State University, which is in line for more than $13 million, according to the Washington, D.C., industry group American Council on Education.
Half of the amount each college receives must go toward student grants, a similar standard put in place last year when colleges nationwide first received coronavirus pandemic-related aid. In that case last April, Central Massachusetts colleges received a total of $33 million.

In all, Central Massachusetts colleges are in line for $100 million, including Becker College, which announced March 29 it will close operations at the end of the spring semester because of financial difficulties. The total does not include $12.5 million slated for MCPHS University, whose main campus is in Boston, but also has locations in Worcester and Manchester, N.H.
The American Rescue Plan Act distributes approximately $36 billion among nearly 3,500 nonprofit colleges, and approximately $396 million to about 1,630 for-profit institutions, the American Council on Education has estimated.
